The New Macs Are Out

So I did the only sane thing

I’m dumping my 2021 14” MacBook Pro. The one with one terabyte of storage and 32 gigs of memory.

I’ve never typed on its keyboard. I’ve never used its trackpad. That’s how much I’ve used it. I have an external display and Magic Keyboard and Mouse.

I intended to get out to Starbucks to soak up the envy of other lesser users, but I was worried I’d spill coffee on it. Or drop it. Or someone bigger than me would snatch it and run out the door with it. It’s been the same with my last three MacBooks.

There was also the wi-fi factor. I only recently upgraded to unlimited 5G on my iPhone so that I might use it as a hotspot. What if someone hacked my Apple password? That would be tragic.

On the rare occasions I travel with it, I take the mouse and keyboard, so I don’t have to touch anything. I hate the small display. I’m olde, and my eyes are tired.

I use it — a lot. I develop software for both hobby and vocation. According to Screen Time, I spend an average of seven hours daily on it. I use Excel to track my money. It’s the only way I handle email. The world would end if I missed a Discord DM. I do most of my reading on it, except in the car, where I use my iPad (not while driving, of course). I also do my writing on it.

I also have a MacMini M1 I use as my test bed. I’m keeping that. Did you see the prices of the new ones? Stunning. Apple only offered me $300 in trade-in. I can sell…
